Is open source free enough?

One thing is for sure, we can only provide credible end-to-end encryption if the source is openly available and competent people can make independent binary programs out of it. But we may also have to consider how to protect such a software from being abused and distorted away from the original intention of freedom. Open Source misses the point of Free Software.
